Disability Support Worker Full Time

(Employment and Training Officer)

The Disability Support Worker is a hands on position that works with and trains people with a disability in the area of Recycling, and Weighbridge operations at the Gate in Cootamundra and Young.  This position is generally based in Cootamundra however you may be asked to work at other locations.  You will be working full time 5 days a week Monday to Friday.  A current drivers licence is essential as is the ability to operate or learn to operate a  Bobcat and a Forklift licence.

A typical work day for the person in this position will involve working with and training people with a disability in Recycling Plant operations, sorting & pressing up of recyclables  bobcat and forklift operations and yard duties. This position may be required to transport our Employees on a bus run . 

All of these activities are done with a crew of people with a disability each of whom has an individual training plan that is developed and  implemented by training staff.

Elouera Recycling is an Australian Disability Enterprise is a division of the Elouera Association based in Cootamundra and this position reports to the Disability Support Supervisor at the location they are rostered to and receives support from other staff such as the Chief Executive Officer and Manager of Operations when required. 

Wages and conditions are based on the Social and Community Services Award . Current Wages are $65,347.00 (32.98 ph) - $67,860.00 (35.86 ph) per annum. All Disability Support Officers are required to undertake necessary NDIS training, NDIS and WWCC clearances and any training such as a current First Aide Certificate. The Elouera Association Ltd will cover the costs of this training however training may need to be completed in your own time.  Covid 19 vacination and any required booster shot is mandated and Elouera Association Policy.

 SELECTION CRITERIA

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB. 

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Work with and train employees with a disability in recycling works.

  • Identify individual needs and training requirements of individuals and working with other staff create a workable action plan.

  • Co-ordinate appropriate workplace modification or changes in work practices to facilitate the employment of individuals with a disability.

  • Maintain a good understanding of the operation of the Recycling Plant.

  • Assist in the completion of the Employment Training and Assessment System.

  • Work with and liaise with the public in their dealings with the Recycling Plant and the Waste Disposal Site including Weigh Bridge operations .

  • To propose changes and suggestions that will see improvements in the operation

  • Carry out inspections and maintenance of all equipment or advise when trades persons are required for repairs or maintenance.

  • Work with other staff and employee's in maintaining the grounds in a tidy manner. 

  • To understand, and follow all policies of the Elouera Association Ltd.

  • To ensure workplace is safe and all safety equipment is in good order and utilised by everyone. 

  • To represent the Elouera Association Ltd in a positive way at all times and assist in the marketing and public image of the Association.

  • To transport employee's to and from work in a safe manner at all times.

  • To perform all other reasonable requests and duties as requested.

  • To understand and be committed to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissions requirements for disability support staff.

The work of the Disability Support Officer requires a commitment to the Elouera Association Ltd and the organisations vision for the development of a better quality working life for people with disabilities.  The DSO is required to exercise the utmost discretion and maintain high levels of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive and private information.
